Sound & Performance Work

This interdisciplinary sonic practice employs live improvisation, vocal loops, found objects, and real-time video mixing, at times incorporating generative AI imagery. Environmental recordings and digitally manipulated samples are recontextualized to construct layered soundscapes that oscillate between the organic and the synthetic. Extended vocal techniques operate as conduits for spiritual resonance, political reverberation, and ancestral presence. Each performance navigates the tension between absence and presence, amplifying the hollowness and depth of unheard frequencies. Sound becomes a site of embodied memory, responsive to space, audience, and the unseen histories carried within vibration.

Group Chat is a Tucson-based sonic duo composed of Jacqueline Arias and Zack Lischer-Katz bringing together sound and visual landscapes shaped by Arias’s background in visual art and Lischer-Katz’s roots in the 2000s NYC noise scene. Their current project draws inspiration from the desert and from the impulse to communicate sonically with emergent systems. These intentions surface as slow-moving disruptions, layered surf-psych textures, reverberant tones, and haunting vocal loops that drift between density and openness. At times delicate and dissonant, Group Chat captures the ghosts of late 20th-century sound and image and coaxes sympathetic reverberations to soothe the scorched late modern landscape.
