The video is a response to a poem written by poet & scholar Ryan Dobran for an exhibit exploring the exchange between text-based and image-based artistic practice. The exhibition, “Former Islands” at Heliopolis in Greenpoint Brooklyn, invited two of these artists to exchange works and then create new works in response, transferring ideas between media and generating relay systems between image and word, object and letter.
This response entitled, “Errors, Patterns & Repetitions” considers the artist as a machine, an extension of the mass production of text and ideas, mass production of self-healing tools and the commodification of identity. Freedom from the banality of the everyday is found in errors, patterns and repetitions and in subverting language itself in hegemonic media
